BEST regional ecosystem profiles

Prior to investing in biodiversity hotspots within the EU Overseas Territories, a comprehensive assessment was carried out in collaboration with local stakeholders, including NGOs, government officials, and academics, to create ecosystem profiles. These profiles provide a strategic framework for evaluating the region’s biodiversity and defining key priorities for conservation and sustainable development. To secure funding, projects need to be aligned with these priorities, ensuring they contribute to the strategic goals outlined in the regional ecosystem profiles and support the sustainable use of biodiversity and ecosystem services in the EU Outermost Regions and Overseas Countries and Territories.

GAP Analysis for EU ORs

These reports were produced as part of a LIFE4BEST-funded assessment aimed at identifying key gaps, challenges, and priorities in biodiversity conservation across the EU Outermost Regions (ORs). Developed through stakeholder consultations and aligned with the BEST regional ecosystem profiles, these gap analysis reports offer comprehensive solutions to guide effective conservation implementation and improve outcomes. To secure funding, projects in the EU ORs must align with the recommendations in these reports, ensuring their actions contribute to enhanced conservation efforts. The reports are designed to inform and shape strategies addressing biodiversity, ecosystem services, and climate change in these outermost regions, while also helping to establish funding priorities for future initiatives.
